Weldon Mills Distillery in Durham: A Cool and Modern Cocktail Option Close to DPAC

As a food blogger, sometimes it’s a huge challenge keeping up with what’s new in the area. There’s no one consolidated list and oftentimes, new restaurants and bars don’t have a very public presence or make a big PR type push to spread the news. Weldon Mills Distillery was a bit of an oversight on my part! I had seen the news at some point and time but after some quick research, it didn’t strike me as something I would need to keep an eye on. But color me wrong, a recent trip to the Bull City and a recommendation from friends to check out this new joint uncovered a venue and bar that’s pretty special!

Weldon Mills Distillery’s address is on E. Main Street but the entrance is really on Roxboro Street which may throw people off! Head inside the glass doors, pass the packing/bottling area and you’ll find yourself in a large open lounge area with a large bar to your right. Round LED lamps overhead and a bright map of downtown Durham gives the space an industrial but modern feel. There are multiple clusters of stuffed leather seating, couches, tables, and more! And don’t miss the vertical plant wall at the end of the space. Definitely some room to stretch out in and the cocktail menu features some great liquors distilled by Weldon Mills. I’ll be updating the post with cocktail information after I get in for a couple of more visits.

Overall, I’m pretty happy to have stumbled into Weldon Mills Distillery. If you’ve got a show at DPAC or just want a good cocktail and conversation while exploring Durham, Weldon Mills is a great spot to relax, imbibe and chill out in. Make the effort and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
